Introducing MAGNOFFEE : MAGNUM & COFFEE

So, two days ago we were invited by Magnum Cafe for a blogger gathering in an exciting and interesting event called “Introducing Magnoffee: Magnum & Coffee”. It was held at the Magnum Cafe in Grand Indonesia. They also invited the coffee expert and enthusiast, Toni Wahid, owner of  www.cikopi.com and also Riri Odang who is a Senior Brand Manager of Magnum. Magnum has been largely known as one of the best Belgian chocolate coated ice cream and now, they're experimenting with something new using coffee.

There were lots of food bloggers that I've only known through their amazing blogs and I was very happy to have a chance to meet them. They even generously prepared some snacks and drinks for us before we start the presentation. I don't know if this was because I haven't eaten that time or not, but the snacks are actually really satisfying. I especially love the fried chickens, which I think I had too much of!

Mr. Toni kindly shared his knowledge about coffee and he even said that the best coffee beans to him is actually Indonesian's. Wow! I think that's something we have to all be proud of. He even showed us how he combined coffee with Magnum's delicious ice cream to make an Affogato, which is a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream topped with a shot of hot espresso, and called for one volunteer who didn't like coffee to try it. Affogato is perfect for those who doesn't really like coffee and allows them to actually enjoy some and with coffee that's personally made by Mr. Toni combined with Magnum's ice cream, who could ever resist?

This is just espresso with Magnum's original vanilla ice cream. We were given samples of it and there're a few ways to enjoy it. You can either dip the ice cream and then enjoy the coffee from the ice cream, or you can put the whole ice cream into the coffee and just enjoy it from the cup. I usually am not a big fan of espresso shots, but with Magnum it was actually yummy. This is something that I might actually enjoy sometimes. Although I was a bit out of focus, cause instead of enjoying the coffee, I was actually enjoying the ice cream more. Oops?

Mr. Toni also teaches us how to brew our own coffee at home with these tools bellow that you can easily find. 10 grams of coffee and 100-150 grams of hot water (depends on how thick you want the coffee to be). Don't use the water that's too hot though, cause you might burn the grinned coffee beans (preferably 90°C). Well, now I can make my own coffee! :)

After Mr. Toni shown us all those things, we were separated into 4 groups to make our own style of Affogatos. We were given many ingredients to make our perfect Affogato, there was 4 glasses of espresso, 4 mini Magnum ice cream (Classic and Almond), milk, simple syrup, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and let's not forget the whipped cream! I had a lot of fun with the other food bloggers, experimenting with our crazy ideas of an Affogato. In the end, we made such a messy art but what matters is that we enjoyed it, right?

These are some of our creations! Just kidding HAHA, this was made by professionals (Magnum Cafe), definitely looked a lot more tempting than what I did, lol. Mr. Toni said that the great quality Belgian chocolate of Magnum can be proved by how it doesn't easily melt even when it's put in a hot coffee.

You can enjoy these all soon in Magnum Cafe, so be sure to try it out when they finally launched it! Overall, I had a great time in this event, it was both fun and educational. I even got a chance to have some quality time with other amazing food bloggers.

THANK YOU MAGNUM CAFE FOR INVITING US!!

GIYANTI COFFEE

Need a coffee break?? Then you've come to the right *post of a* place!! Giyanti here is located in Menteng and I had finally found this place, after getting lost a few times, using GPS and asking some random people. What can I say, I'm not that good with directions. On the same day, me and my friends also went to another coffee shop and had 2 cups of coffee already, so I guess you can say that I was literally drunk on coffee. But I really wanted to try the coffees here in Giyanti which is owned by Hendrik Halianto. It's located behind a beauty clinic and when you first arrive, you'll find a cute hallway with beautiful potted plants surrounding the path leading to the shop.

The place is not really big and simple but it's really comfy and homey. There's an outdoor and indoor, we actually wanted to sit indoors but it was full so we had to sit outdoors, which was surprisingly not that hot like I had expected. The outdoor is decorated like a backyard garden which is really relaxing. There are a lot of adorable decorations all over the place that'll just lift up you mood. They also provides chess, darts and other games that you can actually play with!

They also have these small board with the WiFi password plugged on a small cactus pot, how convenient!. By the way, petroncini is the name of a coffee roaster.

CAPPUCCINO IDR 34K
I love how they used coffee beans that are actually produced by Indonesia; such as Toraja, Mandhailing, Flores, Kintamani, Papua and many more. For the cappuccino, they used Bali coffee beans and I think this is one of the BEST cappuccinos that I've ever tasted, seriously!

LATTE IDR 37K

The balance of the coffee and milk is really admirable and with Indonesia's finest coffee beans, this is just plain perfection in a cup. You can really taste quality in this latte. Plus, the latte arts are just beautiful.

The indoors are decorated with elegant rustic design that is so unique. You can find antiques and arts that represents Indonesia, definitely felt the love for Indonesia.

You have to order and pay first on the counter, then you'll be seated and they will bring your orders to you. It's so kind of them to also give some mineral water that is not just a normal water, it has some kind of a nice aroma.

Mr. Hendrik sometimes even deals with the coffee order himself and he welcomes anyone to talk about coffees and shares his knowledge. You can just feel the passion for coffee here. They also offers some desserts to accompany your coffees. I love how this place just feels so earthy. There're so many plants, wooden furniture, and even the tables are made of tree trunks. I think the coffees are a bit pricey but that's the price you have to pay for quality coffee so it's really worth it. I'm definitely gonna come back here! And what are you coffee enthusiast waiting for? Visit now!

H5 : Howdy Hello Holla HEY HO !

Howdy Hello Holla HEY HO! Okay, that's actually the name of the restaurant. A unique restaurant by OPCO located in Grand Indonesia that you definitely won't wanna miss!!!

We actually went here a few weeks ago but only got to post this now :(
The first thing that attracts us is the catchy name and of course, the blinding sign. Who wouldn't be interested to neon lights? No one? Just us? Oh well... Howdy Hello Holla HEY HO! or H5 for short is on the 5th floor, which is the same floor as Koffie Warung Tinggi and Ron's Laboratory. It's hard to miss actually, trust me. By the way, their food style is actually an Asian fusion, so today's review is gonna be non-halal!

The concept of this place is like an underground pub or something like that. They made the place to look like an unfinished construction if you look at the ceiling and walls. It's so peculiar yet elegant.

Don't you think that the bar stool is just gorgeous? I love the retro-ness of it! The colorful spirit bottles and the hanging lights are such a piece of art. The lights really catches my attention! When I saw this, I could imagine music blaring in the background even though it's actually not.

Okay enough about all the interior stuffs, let's continue on with what might cause a bit of drooling!
The mouth-watering FOODS!!

PORKBELLY WATERMELON SALAD IDR 45K
This extremely delicious crispy pork belly is paired with a sweet watermelon. I usually don't go for salads and will just skip that page on a menu, but the waiter said that the recommendation is the salad and that this was different and I was attracted to the name 'Porkbelly'. At first, I thought that this combination is weird and doubted that it will suit each other but after 1 bite, I'm literally addicted! The crispy side is really crunchy, it's not hard at all. It's a bit sweet and salty, which I really like and the watermelon gives a refreshing touch to the dish. Also, you won't find pork belly this good with price that friendly anywhere else. Really recommend this one!

CRISPY PORK HOOK IDR 195K

Roast knuckle, apple slaw, H5 sauce.
This giant portion of pork knuckle is really satisfying! It's enough for 3 people (though I think I could finish this alone) I was a bit afraid that the skin might be hard to chew when I first saw it, but let me tell you, THAT is something you don't need to worry about cause these here are perfect! The H5 sauce contains tamarinds so it's a bit sour, I personally am not a big fan of tamarinds but this is still bearable and you don't have to use it if you really don't want to. The salads and apple slaw are also so fresh, great quality control!

MANGO MANIA IDR 40K
Recommended to all you mango lovers out there! Truthfully, I was a little bit disappointed with the presentation of the mango though, cause the one I saw in a photo on someone's instagram, it still has the skin and was cut in squares. But I guess they changed it cause it might be more complicated to eat with the skin unpeeled and everything, so I'm actually thankful of it. The mango creamy sorbet thingy is sweet with a hint of sour and very fragrant. The sticky rice goes really well with the mangoes and don't forget those salty crushed peanuts, I love it!!!

REGULAR TEA IDR 20K & HELLOW MELLOW IDR 35K

Hellow Mellow: Shaken fresh watermelon fruit, fresh passion fruit, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, basil leaves and markisa syrup.
This is a very refreshing mocktail. They literally used fresh fruits, you can see that there's an actual watermelon and passion fruit in there. Though I do think that the passion fruit overpowered the other tastes, but that's what makes it so refreshing. This definitely surpassed my expectation. Although I would recommend them to use bigger straw for this since it was a bit hard to drink from a normal straw cause of all the fruit chunks inside.

We actually arrived really early, I think they just opened cause when we went in some of the staffs were still preparing and stuff. But they were immediately ready to serve with all smiles even though it was still early, so 2 thumbs up for service! What I love the most might possibly be the somewhat graffiti like drawings, I think it's really cool, simple but means a lot like this one picture below, my favorite! It really suits today's generation cause I think that what the picture shows is like a ritual nowadays.

By the way, when I pass H5 today (29/03/14/) I saw that they were renovating the place! Can't wait to visit again after it's finished, I bet it's gonna be more fantastic!
