SHABU-SHABU HOUSE PLAZA INDONESIA

Can't believe February is over! I feel like it's only yesterday we celebrated New Year and now it's almost March! How time flies!
Today we'll not be talking about something new but still good! Shabu-Shabu House, a great place to enjoy some decent shabu-shabu and other Japanese food! They actually have other branches and each branch has different concept, like in Grand Indonesia is an all you can eat, this one, which is in Plaza Indonesia is for a la carte only, and in Senayan City is a mix of all you can eat with wagyu only a la carte!

I think that this place kind of deserve an award, since they're not a new upcoming restaurant that has been a trend nowadays, but they're almost a full house when I visit, which not much restaurant can do!

YOGHURT MANGO IDR 65K
Fresh mango, sake, yoghurt, mango syrup.

A fresh start is always a good way to go! Though I didn't realize that there's sake in it, since I'm not a big fan of alcohol that is a good thing! Thought that the mango is gonna be sour but turns out, it was super sweet, which made it a perfect combination for the yogurt!

EDAMAME
A little snack while we wait for the feast!

SALMON CARPACCIO IDR 49K
For the appetizer, we had something that is a little mix of Italian and Japanese. The salmon and veggies are super fresh! The perfect dish to fire up your appetite!

SHRIMP TOWER IDR 58K
It's a tempura galore!! Literally just shrimp with rice and sauce, a tempura rolled into a sushi. Simple but delicious! Recommended to, of course, tempura lovers!

SALMON CRISPY IDR 45K
I know it doesn't look like salmon, more like chicken wings..lol! Don't underestimate it though, cause it's unexpectedly good! Well, more like, I hardly fine fried food bad, just unhealthy. There's a saying the more unhealthy a food is, the better the taste, but please don't make that your motto! Stay healthy, people!

SPICY CHICKEN SALAD IDR 55K
They weren't kidding when they say 'spicy'! Might not be a spicy food lover, but this is just so addictive! I'd continue munching on if only I had a big bottle of mineral water next to me! Be thankful you, who can take their spicy foods with no problem!

What's a shabu-shabu without veggies, right?

SHABU SHABU ORIGINAL US
Regular IDR 175K
Large IDR 235K
Extra large IDR 295K

Don't you just think that this looks so beautiful? Only one plate won't be enough for me! After cooked in the shabu-shabu, it stays tender because of how perfect the slices are! Just heavenly! For the additional US meat, you only need to add another IDR 115K for 100 gr or IDR 195K for 200 gr!

SHABU SHABU ORIGINAL WAGYU
Regular IDR 245K
Large IDR 315K
Extra Large IDR 385K

There's no other word for this but gorgeous! Look at how it's all red, my favorite color! :D For additional of this is IDR 175K for the 100 gr and IDR 285K for the 200gr!

CHOICE OF SOUP
Original, Tom Yum, Sukiyaki, Spicy Miso, Miso, Kimchi.

For the soup, we had the original and Kimchi, which pretty much tasted like Tom Yum for some reason. If you're looking for something light I'd suggest the original soup and Tom Yum or Kimchi for the richly seasoned one. Be warned that the Tom Yum and Kimchi is a bit spicy!

They have 2 special dipping sauce here, which doesn't exactly have a name. This one is the peanut, garlic, chili oil, and chili sauce, the other one is the ponzu, radish, garlic, and leek sauce, which is more tangy and sweet. I prefer the peanut one though!

JAPANESE PLUM WINE IDR 79K (GLASS)
Matcha / on the rock / soda / straight.

Make your day fancy with this sweet wine! I may not like alcohol that much but this one is really tolerable, since it's sweet and this one is combined with soda. If I didn't know better I'd think it's a sparkling champagne! I'd really like to try the one mixed with matcha though, it sounds interesting! A bottle of the Japanese plum wine costs IDR 790K, if you're interested to have a drink with friends!

GREEN FUJIYAMA IDR 35K
Green tea snow ice, mochi ball, red bean.

They have 4 choices of snow ice here. The green tea was okay, though I could almost not taste any green tea on it, since it's made into ice. I think they need to add a stronger matcha flavor for the matcha snow ice or it'll just be a tasteless snow ice!

CHOCOLATE CUSTARD IDR 35K
Milk snow ice, oreo brownies, corn flakes, custard cream, chocolate sauce.

The milk snow ice actually has the same problem as the matcha but because there's chocolate sauce and custard cream on this one, it didn't fail as much as the matcha! The oreo brownies and corn flakes also helped a lot but I guess I just don't like snow ices(?)

CHOCOLATE EXPLOSION IDR 45K
Yeap, not much explosion though, when we cut it, the chocolate didn't explode like the name said, so don't worry! :P The warm cake was really soft and combined with the cold ice cream makes a mix of heavenly dessert, though it's not very healthy for the teeth but oh well!

MATCHA MILK ZENSAI IDR 35K
Vanilla ice cream, red bean, mochi ball, brown sugar jelly, rice crispy, green tea milk.

I guess you could say that this is like a fancy Japanese cereal. Didn't really tried much, since I was a bit overwhelmed by all the milk I had! Too much milk and cream, yet with just a few taste I could say this was an interesting one!

COFFEE JELLY IDR 25K
Last one is like an affogato with jelly and cornflakes! The bitterness of the coffee helped ease the milk taste but still, I'm not a fan of affogato, so I didn't have much of this!

This might not be a new place, but it's a special one and seeing that they have been surviving this long means they're good! The place was crowded too when I came and that is saying a lot! Anyways, I saw that they're having a new sushi menu by Chef Kenji from their website! I definitely visit again soon!

WINE AND MEAT CO. PIK

Seriously?! Another one in Pantai Indah Kapuk?? Will they ever get tired of PIK or Senopati or Grand Indonesia? Not in the near future is what I'm guessing! Well, many new restaurants are blooming non-stop in our beloved Jakarta and I'm starting to question if that is a good thing or not! Lol! This time is a western restaurant that used to be Viti Wine Boutique, if I'm not mistaken (please tell me if I'm wrong), now it's called Wine and Meat Co.! There's not much different except they just added meat to it and you can probably tell that it's a place to enjoy wine and stuff! And where there's alcohol, there must be smoking involved, which is why the smoking room is more crowded!

Here's the outdoor smoking room and you have to get past this to get inside the non-smoking indoors! So with much effort, I made it safely inside! Lol!

The place is a more midnight hangout kind of place, which I can say from the fact that they open until 1 am everyday! It's where the 'mature' people are, enjoying their alcohol, definitely not for a kid like me! :P

The walls here are all made out of bricks as if to give off a feeling of a winery storage! It's also kind of medieval or like a pirate hideout to me. Thankful that the indoors are a great haven from smoke, which made it a pretty comfortable place for me!

There's not quite many choices on the menu here, just a really simple varieties of appetizer and soup, the main dishes are only pastas, steaks, and one choice of burger! The most dreaded part; ONLY 3 dessert menus!! :(

SPAGHETTI CARBONARA IDR 59K
For the size of the portion, this is a bit too overpriced! Just look at that! Looks like it came from the kids menu and the taste wasn't even that special to make up for the lacking portion!

SHORT RIBS - USA - 400GR IDR 185K
The special here is this 400gr short ribs. After the non-exciting portion of the carbonara, we were soothed by this huge short ribs that I bet you can't handle it yourself, unless you're very, very, very hungry! It was tender and adding the mushroom sauce just makes this a one irresistible meal! You can also change the fries to mashed potatoes or steamed rice, whatever you prefer!

CHARCOAL BURGER WITH ANGUS BEEF + FRIES IDR 55K
There's only one burger menu here and seeing it's a charcoal burger just triggered my curious senses! Might be small in portion but since it tastes AMAZING, it's forgiven! The buns are super soft and no questions needed about the Angus beef! It's too bad they don't sell the Angus beef in steaks, I'd really love that!

SHORT PLATE - USA - 200GR IDR 69K
Did you know that this is comes from cow's BELLY? I would never be able to tell the difference! Okay, maybe it does look weird, but tasted like any other beef steaks I had or maybe it's not supposed to taste different? Oh well, all I know is that this is really tender and I was recommended by the waiter to choose BBQ sauce for this one!

SIRLOIN - NEW ZEALAND - 200GR IDR 85K
Wow! Under IDR 100K for imported steaks, I think that's really affordable, don't you? And it's not like they taste crappy and all, on the contrary, it was pretty good! I'm impressed!

When I came here, I was a bit disappointed by the fact that they ran out of rib eyes, wagyu, and skirt, so all I can order was this on the photo below. Well, I can't say that I'm too disappointed after tasting it though, since it's all satisfying and very affordable! If you're looking for good western food with good price than this is the perfect place!

LE EPICURE PATISSERIE

Hi! How's your day? I hope it's great! My holiday just ended and I've started my first week of back in university..devastating, yet this is what I've been waiting for as well, since I really want to hurry up and graduate! *Sigh* The struggles of last semester students... Give me strength peeps!
On my last day of freedom, I decided to visit somewhere further from home; Kelapa Gading!! The times I've been to Kelapa Gading can still be counted with my fingers, which just shows how rare this opportunity is! I came here specifically to try a Thai cuisine, which is gonna be posted later on, and also for this beautiful cafe, Le Epicure! (So French!)

You might be astonished by how deserted this place is but you're not the only one! I would never thought there would be such a gorgeous patisserie in this neighborhood, you have to check them out yourself to understand what I'm trying to say! Seriously! If it wasn't for Instagram, I wouldn't have known about this but because they're deserted, the place is almost empty, which made it super comfy! My friends and I definitely made ourselves at home here!

Firstly, you'll face a pretty high stairs even before entering the cafe and inside you'll find more stairs, which leads you either to their bottom floor or middle one, where the cakes are displayed, we'll also place our orders here. They have 3 floors here and the seats are only on the bottom and third, there's also a fourth floor but it the office or something, which non-associated people are not supposed to enter! The photo below is the bottom floor by the way!

Here's the second floor! See how pretty and sweet the place is? Might be a bit too girly but since I'm a girl, I'm totally loving this! I do think these kind of designs for a patisserie has become too mainstreamed though, but it's still pretty so I'll let it slide!

Some of the displayed goods!

I chose the third floor to enjoy my desserts and you'll see how amazing this place is here! Truth be told, I decided to sit here because they said the third floor has sofas..lol!

And once again, the most amazing view and interior has to go to the smoking room! :( But I guess it's a given, since this is the outdoors. A patio-like outdoor separated by a glass door from the indoor!

The coolest part of this is the fact that they're glass-floored, so you can see through to the bottom floor from here! Warning to the girls wearing skirts though, since if we can see what's below, the person below can also see what's above them!

This is really a perfect spot for a photoshoot! Not only because of the beautiful interior but also because there's so much natural sunlight coming in!

PLAISIR SUCRE IDR 25K
One of Pierre Hermé's wonderful creations, a French pastry chef who is called 'The Picasso of Pastry' and is famous for his macarons! The original recipe consists of Dacquoise biscuit with crunchy hazelnuts, hazelnut crisp, thin wafers of milk chocolate, milk chocolate ganache and milk chocolate chantilly and here they created an almost similar one! Though it still looked like a sloppy work, I can really see them going somewhere if they perfected it! The taste was pretty standard but seeing the price, it was kind of worth it!

CHOCOLAT HAZELNUT ECLAIR IDR 20K
Okay, I can really say that they don't have the best eclairs. The choux dough was too dry and you can't really taste the hazelnut. I don't recommend the eclairs, no matter how affordable it is!

DARK CHOCOLATE TART IDR 25K
Don't judge by how it looks cause this is one of my favorites! Cookie crusted dark chocolate ganache with a hint of coffee flavor in it! Simply satisfying!

MILLE FEUILLE IDR 25K
Very ordinary and what I don't like about mille feuille is that they're so hard to cut! By the end of succeeding in cutting it, they'll probably be in a mess! The cream was okay and it's not bad, just really standard!

MANGO MOUSSE IDR 25K
So.very.sour!! I know it's gonna be tangerine-y fresh but I didn't expect it to be this much! After eating all the sweet heavy pastries, this was our lifesaver though, but it doesn't change the fact that it's really sour! The colors really pretty and that is what attracted me the most!

VANILLE ECLAIR IDR 15K
This is worse than the hazelnut, since vanilla is like the most basic of all flavors, which made this eclair more unattractive to my taste bud! :(

TIRAMISU IDR 25K
This was decent enough and the simple plating is actually kinda cute! Though it's not the neatest job with the layering, at least the taste is okay!

The price here is really affordable!! Too bad they didn't develop the taste more or it'll be perfect but I guess this is the highest quality we could get with just IDR 15-25K. Even if there's nothing special with the pastries, I'd definitely come back just for the sake of the calm and inspiring ambiance! I could really see myself getting some work done here! I hope they'd step up on their taste so that this place could become the perfect spot in Kelapa Gading!
