PONG ME! Table Set by Chef Chandra Francis

Last day of April!! Time flew so fast! It's only 1 more month 'till I have to submit my final thesis and I kept hearing questions about how it's going from everybody... :') I'm depressed.. Well, let's not talk about that. I might be just escaping from reality but anyways, got to try some new menus from Pong Me! And no, it's not the one at Gunawarman but instead it's at Kemang, owned by Nirina Zubir and Ernest!
Sorry that there's no interior photo but it's the foods that are important, right?

ONION RING
Even though I'm not a big fan of onions, I strangely could tolerate deep fried onion rings..guess anything that's deep fried is tolerable? Anyways, not only did I enjoy snacking on these, I think it's also thanks to the yummy sauce!

CRISPY CHICKEN WINGS
My favorite snack out of all here! These chickens were really salty but that's exactly how I like it! Love how it stayed decently crispy even after it's cold, but I bet it'd taste even better hot!

CALAMARI RING
It's a bit hard to chew but I think that's mostly our fault cause we let it get cold, yet it's also because it was slightly overcooked and adding the 2 just produced unsatisfying results, so don't let yours get cold everyone! The sauce was good though, it's Thai sweet chili sauce, I think?

GREEK SALAD
There was 2 salad choices here, this and Nicoise, the only difference is Nicoise uses balsamic vinegar and Greek uses fetah cheese and olive oil dressing. I was okay with both but we went for Greek instead. It's good, you'll immediately feel healthy after eating this! Lol! Since I don't usually go for veggies, this is a nice change once in a while! Like a breather in midst of all the fat and protein!

PRAWN THAI ROLL
It was okay, crispy, flavorful (well, as flavorful a Thai roll can get) and it was not overly oily, which I really appreciate! Another dish that you can't let get cold, cause it could be really good while it's still warm and don't forget the sauce, cause it's where all the flavor comes from in Thai rolls!

And this is just the starters!

LINGUINI MARINARA
Very delightfully cooked pasta with fresh seafood toppings! I'd say it's perfect if only the calamari's not so overcooked but other than that it's all good, from the texture to the flavor!

LAMB CHOP
My goodness, this is what I miss the most out of all the main dishes! The tender meat, the amazing sauce, just can't help but drool! Most people might not like lamb so much, since it's said to have this certain smell but I don't think this one smell at all! Though I'm not that disturbed by those smells, so I guess I don't really know, all I know that this is good!

SEAFOOD RISOTTO
Never been a big fan of risotto and the toppings are exactly the same as the linguine, so I'd gladly choose that one over this but if you're a fan of risotto, do try this!

GAMBERI PIZZA
This Gamberi pizza's topping, consists of prawns, tomatoes, and red onions. Sounds really simple but it's surprisingly good! Another plus because the pizza dough is already satisfying! Very thin crust that it's almost crispy on the edges! Just how I like it!

MEAT LOVERS PIZZA
The most generally loved pizza!! Who could ever deny the allure of a meat lovers pizza? I know I can't! Though lacking in pepperoni, I still find it decent with the generous amount of sausage and bacon! Please consider adding some pepperoni!! :p

GREEN TEA BRULEE
Love!!! Always been a huge fan of crème brulee and even more for a green tea brulee! I remembered I first tried green tea brulee at Pullman Central Park, while I was training there and totally fell in love with it! Meeting with another one again is truly a wonderful dream, especially if it's a good one and this is definitely it! Great texture and flavor with such a gorgeous look with those burnt caramel on top!

NUTELLA BANANA CREPES
I always adore soft crepes rather than the crispy ones, so I'm really glad that here they offer the soft ones and since the topping is Nutella, I really don't have anything to complain about! Another is that banana and chocolates are a match-made in heaven, so this is just one satisfying plate of treat with a vanilla ice cream to add another plus point!

I'm not saying that I'd go as far as being a regular customer here, since Kemang is a rather far destination for me but I am saying that it's a decent place to hang out PLUS you can play ping pong here! Not only will your tummy be filled but you can also burn some calories too, so no worries about gaining weight here! I do apologize that there're no prices, since this was a food tasting for the launching of their new menus, so I couldn't get the information about the price!

MACARONI HOUSE

So last week we went to a super cute restaurant called Macaroni House. Why I said it's cute? Well, just take a look at the decorations! The place is all colorful and everything, plus there's a really funny comic illustration of how Super Macaroni House came to be!

The place is located at Pesanggrahan, which is really close to home at West Jakarta, right next to Sandwich Bakar. It's really easy to find but the parking lot is a bit limited, so be warned! Come as early as you can!

My favorite part of the room is this glass cabinet filled with little Japanese ornaments! There's girls in kimono, different costume set of Hello Kitty and a miniature glass with Japanese paintings on them!

STRAWBERRY YAKULT IDR 20K
Very refreshing and yet, surprisingly not that sour! For this, the yakult they used is really generous and you can see it from when the strawberry juice got separated from the yakult after leaving it for a couple of minutes, the yakult is almost half of the glass!

DALMATIAN SHAKE IDR 20K
Calling all Oreo fans!! This will be perfect for you, I especially love the Oreo Pocky! Last time I checked, Oreo Pocky is still an imported snack, so for the price, this is really worth it!

SHROOM CHICKEN IDR 48K
Delicious cheesy chicken topped with mushroom sauce! The mushroom sauce is not yet poured in the photo though, so that white melted sauce there is the melted cheese! I love how simple, yet yummy this is! It's not like cordon bleu or something but it's definitely decent, especially the smooth mashed potato and let me tell you, making the mashed potato into those shapes is not easy! Since I'm a culinary student, I've tried making those before and it was hard, you need the perfect consistency of the mashed potato, so it's not to mushy but stiff enough to mold!

ROLLED LASAGNA IDR 40,9K
Though I'm not a big fan of lasagna, since I'm not a fan of tomato sauce and sometimes, I think lasagna is too overwhelmed by tomato sauce, yet this one is surprisingly light! Maybe it's because the lasagna is rolled, so there's not many layers, which will lead to more layer of tomato sauce. Lovely!

DATUK CURRY BAKED RICE IDR 39,5K
My favorite dish here! I love curry and I love a cheesy baked rice! Here, I can have both, so what's not to love!! When it first arrived, I was sort of taken aback by the strong smell of bell-pepper, since I don't like bell-peppers, but because it's curry and baked rice, I forced myself to try it and I'm glad I did! The bell-pepper wasn't overwhelming at all! I even thought it was perfect for the dish instead! Yeap, I'm surprised myself!

SMOKED BEEF MACARONI IDR 40K
Now, here's the reason why this restaurant's built in the first place! It used to just be an online shop that sells these lovelies! Their special macaroni and I had high expectation, yet at the same time, wasn't really expecting much because this is the reason they made the restaurant but on the other hand, it used to just be an online shop. After one bite, I was totally blown away though! It's really good and surprisingly light, since most macaronis I know is really heavy, so I love this!

Actually, above Macaroni House, there's a child of theirs called Dapoer Ethnik. It's owned by the same person, it just offers a different type of cuisine. Macaroni House is obviously Western and Dapoer Ethnik is Indonesian!

TEH POCI IDR 17K
It's an authentic taste of Teh Poci! A traditional Indonesian tea, usually accompanied with rock sugar. I love the cute tea set and how Indonesian it is! The tea was really soothing as well!

KETAN JAMBAL IDR 17K
I was kind of wary about trying this because they told us that it was very spicy and it's convincing because of the looks of it! Just look at those chilies on top but after eating it (without the chilies, of course!) turned out, it was not as spicy as we expected. It's actually pretty enjoyable, if you like glutinous rice and salted fish, then this will definitely satisfy you!

LAPIS SELENDANG IDR 17K
Love this Indonesian dessert! The pudding tasted like coconut milk mixed with pandan leaf and below it is sweetened black glutinous rice and it's drizzled with palm sugar. Perfect level of sweetness and fragrance! I totally dig the black glutinous rice!

It's really heartbreaking that they didn't get as many customers as they're supposed to because of the problem with the parking lot, cause the dishes they offer is really good! I really recommend that you try this! By the way, they also offers catering service for your special festivity, just give them a call! They also still has their online shop going by Facebook! Ps. for ordering through delivery takes 2 days!

KADOYA GREENVILLE

If you have read my last blogpost about Bastardo Pizza, then this is the ramens I was talking about! It's a ramen house that is kind of new and it's really close to where I'm living, so I had wanted to try this out ever since I've found out about it but had just recently got the chance to! The name is Kadoya Ramen!

The place has a really simple interior with a lot of Japanese decorations and wooden furniture and like most Japanese restaurants, they also have an open kitchen. It's located at Greenville, next to Padang Express, right across Jakarta Fruit Market, really easy to find, since it's the only restaurant with a classy logo!

Don't know why but I just love this cute toilet sign!

This is their outdoors, though in this photo, it seems like there's a lot of natural light, reality is that it's not that bright here and the same goes for the indoors, plus I do think the lights are too yellow!

GYOZA IDR 28,5K
In the photo, the gyoza might look short and small, but they're actually a decent size. For taste, I don't think there's anything extraordinary, it's good, just not memorable!

KING PRAWN RAMEN IDR 50,8K
Miso ramen with king prawn.

Don't really understand why the strange price, so this is actually IDR 50,825, strange indeed! Out of the 3 bowls of ramens I had here, this is my most favorable one, since the broth's much more flavorful. Guess it's because of the king prawn. The eggs were disappointing though, I was expecting a melting egg yolk like how it usually is in ramens but turns out it's a hard-boiled!

TORIKARA RAMEN IDR 45,6K
Shoyu ramen with deep fried chicken.

Okay, you're probably wondering why I chose something so plain but it's not my fault! Because it's still just a soft opening, all the interesting menu is still unavailable! :( Anyways, the taste of this is also really plain and I'm starting to think that all their dishes are still lacking! Considering the price, I don't really think this is worth it!

This is the deep fried chicken that goes with the Torikara ramen. Nothing can go wrong with a deep fried dish as long as it's not still oily, so this one's safe!

SALMON RAMEN IDR 50,3K
Shoyu ramen with seasoning salmon.

Another weird pricing! This time, it's IDR 50,350! I really don't get why the salmon is made into a minced meat! I thought that it'll be raw or at least in 1 piece but no...it's turned into a minced meat. Guess it's okay, since they're kind of generous with it but still, the taste is too ordinary!

I admit that I'm disappointed, seeing as the price is already not suitable for Greenville's market, I thought that at least, they'll provide a sensational taste! Guess this is another lesson of never to put too much expectation! Well, if they want to survive in Greenville with a price like that, they need to do something with their flavors or they won't make it! Even Maro Anders, who serves yummy foods, didn't survive because they're too pricey for the market! I wish you the best of luck then! Fyi, for the soft opening, they're offering 20% discount!
