To those who loves Chinese food, you're probably familiar about this restaurant, since they're pretty popular. Located at Sawah Besar, they've just got renovated! It's said to used to be a small and very old-school Chinese, now it became way more modern with a better choice of colors, without getting rid of that family restaurant feeling, nice!
The name is PUTIEN, can't get any more Chinese than that..lol! Don't really know what it means but all I know is that it's a Chinese restaurant! At first, PUTIEN here is a coffee shop in Singapore but as time goes by they've evolved into a restaurant in Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Shang Hai, and Taiwan! What's even better is that they've received the Michelin Star for their Singapore outlet!!
First timers might not notice that there's a restaurant here, since from the outside, it's not that eye-catching and pretty small. Another downside of this place is the parking spot!
The quality of the ingredients here is really in check, especially the freshness! They even make their own rice vermicelli and everything is made with traditional methods!
SEAWEED WITH MINI SHRIMPS IDR 58K
The seaweed here is not dried but don't worry, it doesn't have any ocean smell! Might not look that much but it tastes good!
USUS BABI (BRAISED PIG INTESTINES) IDR 58K
One of their signature dish here! Though I don't eat intestines, I guess this was worth the try. Kinda chewy texture and the sauce is what makes it so irresistible! I dared myself to eat this because they assured me that each layer is cleaned thoroughly!
DEEP FRIED PIGS TROTTERS WITH SALT & PEPPER IDR 49K
Not all might eat this, like it's fried pig feet..lol! Usually people eat cukiok and this is my first time trying fried pigs trotters. Can't really taste the salt and pepper but I guess it's okay-ish. Hard to say no to pork no matter what part of it!
When you see it from this side, it kinda looks like pork ribs, doesn't it? :P Tastes really different though, pigs trotters are way more fatty, not trying to make it seem worse but I'm telling you as it is! Still, it tastes good!
DEEP FRIED SQUIRREL FISH IDR 280K
It's literally sweet and sour fish, only they use seabass. The texture is different than the usual fish, it's somewhat more chewy!
The shape of the fish is still intact, unlike usual how the meat is separated with the bones. This is actually boneless! Cool, huh?! No wonder it costs IDR 280K! :')
FRIED HENG HWA BEE HOON IDR 78K
Really, methods doesn't lie! Though this looks like any other vermicelli but it tastes superb! The texture really shows that it's handmade and it's also cooked as a healthy food, so it's oil free!
PUTIEN LOR MEE IDR 78K
PUTIEN's best seller! Using pork broth and white lor mee, brewed for 8 hours using pork and chicken bones. Listening to the cooking methods, it all seem cool, huh? This is also a super healthy food, super plain and almost tasteless! Maybe we're too used to strong artificial flavors that healthy foods doesn't suit us..lol!
BRAISED BEAN CURD WITH CHINESE CABBAGE IDR 128K
Taste super light and filled with veggies. It's like a vegetarian menu and I think this is way healthier than the lor mee cause it's much more tasteless! Haha!
SPINACH W/ SALTED EGG & CENTURY EGG IN SUPREME STOCK IDR 58K
Looks super interesting, right? Yet again, it's...healthy, not salty. It's said that the spinach is picked in 30 days, so it's different then the ones picked in 15 days. Really amazed by how they paid attention to quality! Good job!
STIR FRIED YAM IDR 69K
This is a caramelized yam, so the outer of it is kinda sweet, yet the inside is really tasteless and mushy. Maybe if they cut it smaller, it might not be as tasteless but still, this taste okay!
I totally get why they earned a Michelin Star because the ingredients and methods they used is really traditional and healthy but honestly, this isn't my cup of tea. Well, it is not people our age's type of food to begin with, more of our parents' type of food, right?
