Of course, if it's not PIK, it's Senopati. You can always count on them for some new dining spots! This time it's a cute restaurant called Gioi in Senopati! Exact location is right next to Cacaote (yet another post that has to do with Cacaote..lol!)
The place is super cheery and cute with warm colors surrounding the room. You'll also find a lot of plants furnishing the interior. Some plants are actually planted by their own and are actually the greens and herbs that they'll use for cooking, so it's definitely fresh! Foods made with herbs that we harvest from the plant that we planted ourselves will absolutely taste a whole lot better, right?
The room's not that big but definitely homey with friendly staffs! It's also divided to few spots with different atmosphere. My favorite is definitely this white area with lots of natural lights from the glass roof!
Before we started eating, we were taught on how to make our own sambal matah! It's definitely fun and we're given a small jar to bring home our creation. Making sambal matah turns out to be very easy! :D Thanks for the lesson!
CHAI THAI ICE MILK TEA IDR 45K
A nice cup of thai tea that reminds me of Bangkok!
SATAY LILIT IDR 90K
Balinese-spiced minced prawn & chicken satay on sugarcane stick, served with sambal matah.
The satay is definitely good, though the sambal matah isn't strong enough. It kinda lacks flavor but I guess that's to balance the strong flavored satay! This is one of my favorite out of the ones I tried!
SRIRACHA CHICKEN WINGS IDR 80K
Crispy battered juicy chicken wings, tossed in GIOI's original sriracha garlic sauce.
Have a little bit of fun with this one as you'll get the chicken wings on a jar with the sauce on the side. Pour the sauce in and shake it thoroughly! After satisfied, pour the chicken to the plate and enjoy~ I didn't get the 'enjoy' part though, as the inside of the chicken is still red, which is a no-no for chicken, so I didn't get to try it. Boohoo! :( It looked appetizing too, what bad luck!
BALADO ESCARGOT IDR 86K
Tender water snails sauteed in balado chili, served with crispy garlic toast.
Another one of my favorite! There's not many restaurants that has escargots, so I don't eat them much but I can say that this is one of the good ones! Flavors are strong and kinda spicy but not something I can't handle!
ASIAN STEAK TARTAR IDR 88K
Premium tenderloin marinated in GIOI's Asian dressing, fresh herbs, served chilled with caramelized melinjo crackers.
I've had well done steaks, medium, medium rare but never have I tried a rare one! Well maybe this ain't so raw but it's definitely somewhere before medium rare! I never have any problems with raw foods as long as it's safe to consume, so this definitely intrigued me. Turns out it was actually good! It's marinated well and very tender, since it's raw and all. Not a big fan of melinjo crackers but this one is okay, especially eaten with the steak!
They just love to doll up their dishes with these gorgeous edible flowers! :D
CHAR GRILLED BALINESE CHICKEN IDR 250K
Slow roasted chicken marinated in Balinese spices, served with side of GIOI's rice, corn on a cab and jukut kalasan (served half or whole).
Yes, you can either order a half or whole chicken with the half costing IDR 150K. Okay, the juice or oil looks scary but it actually doesn't taste that oily. Love how it's flavorful and tender, the rice smell super good and everything is very Balinese!
The portion is pretty big, I think the whole chicken is enough for 4 people!
SALMON LODEH IDR 130K
Traditional lodeh with fresh eggplant, long beans, labu siam, melinjo, served with sous vide salmon & tahu tempe.
It's a luxury version of lodeh..lol! How do you upgrade a traditional dish? Put a fancy ingredients in! :D Well, they did an awesome job here! The lodeh is perfectly seasoned and the salmon is still pink on the inside!
ROAST DUCK CURRY IDR 120K
Home-made Thai red curry, juicy and tender duck breast, served with locally-sourced potato, green tomato & eggplant.
Love this more than the lodeh cause it's more flavorful and I like that hint of spiciness to give it an extra slurp! The duck breast is also tender and it's just a mess of creamy goodness! Yum!
I guess this is good place to get some spiked up comfort foods, since it's mostly local foods but upgraded! The price is pretty typical of a restaurant in Senopati and the place is pretty, plus they uses the herbs they plant themselves, so that's an extra point!
